Conference Theme

The theme for SSUNS 2009, Global Impact from Local Initiatives, seeks to recognize the growing influence that a younger generation can have on world affairs. With new media such as blogs growing in political importance from generating awareness to presidential campaigns there is more opportunity than ever for today's youth to create an impact on both local and international events.

This year, SSUNS would like to highlight of all the creative entrepreneurial projects that delegates have been involved with both within and outside of their schools. Our NGO fair this year will emphasise organizations that create opportunities for youth to get involved in projects that seek to call attention to an individual responsibility towards the global community. As the worldwide economic crisis makes it evident that the actions of citizens from all over the world are inevitably linked together, it is important to recognize the positive contributions that local efforts can make to the international scene.

We sincerely hope this year that delegates come away from the conference with a greater sense of empowerment and enthusiasm for global affairs.
