Great Expectations - War Council of Alexander the Great, 332 BC

Delegates, welcome to 332 BCE. Prepare for action: your ingenuity, strategy, and collaboration will be tested in the Eastern Mediterranean. Alexander the Great has his eyes set on conquering the Levant (Syria/Phoenicia) - the Macedonian King has a maximum of even months to complete this part of his campaign. However, the small island fortress Tyre stands in his way as it is both a trade and maritime powerhouse, famous for its impenetrable walls, navy, and wealthy population. It is a formidable opponent in the region. Nonetheless, Alexander demands that he and his troops be let into the city to sacrifice to the god Melqart. However, the Tyrians refused his demands, opting to maintain their alliance with Persian King Darius III and remain “neutral”. With the Tyraines having the naval advantage. Alexander and his army must overcome Tyre's defences with innovative action before time, resources, and morale disappear. While the Tyrainians ought to protect their home against the greatest conqueror of their time. In this committee, delegates will form Alexander the Great’s generals and army, leaders of Tyre, and mercenaries, all working toward their own goals of becoming the victors. The success of the siege in this committee will depend on the effective integration of five core dimensions: military and naval strategy, climate and environmental constraints, social and cultural dynamics, and logistics and engineering innovation. Delegates should apply concepts such as deterrence, alliance-building, and resource management when collaborating to adapt to uncertainty and crises. This is a specialized crisis committee which introduces an interactive simulation based on a large-scale physical strategy map of the Eastern Mediterranean. Delegates will be assigned roles such as Macedonian generals, Tyrannian leaders, mercenary actors and more, each with distinct strategic strengths and objectives. The maps feature game pieces representing military forces, civilian populations, infrastructure and defensive systems. Through directives, delegates will control troop movements, naval positioning, and siege construction ect, with these actions reflected on the board. As a Specialized Committee, it will be up to the delegates to further Alexander's greatness and the ultimate conqueror of the time, by developing innovative plans to fuel the ancient Greek war machine and to further reset the balance of power in the region. Or will the Tyraines maintain their strong hold, defeating Alexander and stopping his campaign in its tracks? Delegates, you have the chance to change the course of history.
