Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile Board of Directors
(Mid Level of Crisis elements)
Committee Description
It’s lights out and away we go at SSUNS 2024! The Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA) was founded in 1904 and is charged with overseeing motorsport. It is held in Paris and its 240 members work together to solve issues and create rules regarding motorsport. Whilst it works on organizing and overseeing the Formula 1 (F1) tournament over the year, the FIA is more than just a referee to this competition. It regulates all the other tournaments at various levels of motorsport and is necessary to control spending, monitor technological advancement, protect intellectual property, take on all legal matters regarding motorsport, implement environmental measures, and foster an inclusive space in motorsport. Over the last few decades, the FIA has failed to meet and succeed at all of its roles. It has been mixed in hundreds of media scandals and struggles to stay on top of its role in F1. This committee will focus on the FIA’s “we race as one” initiative that attempted to make F1 more inclusive and the issue of money over safety where drivers in motorsport are put in danger for the FIA’s profit. In this committee, delegates will take on the role of board members and debate the topics, putting forth creative and collaborative solutions while also having to handle crises that may arise. Will they make it to the checkered flag?
