Position Papers

All delegates participating in a General Assembly, Economic Social Council, or Specialized Agency at SSUNS 2024 will be required to submit a position paper before the start of the conference. For Crisis Committees position papers are not mandatory and will not impact your chance at awards in any way. Position Papers are used to give each delegation the chance to summarize their understanding of the issue at hand, to make evident a nation’s stance on the issue, and to propose possible solutions. A simple format all delegates can follow when writing their position papers is to divide it up into 3 concise paragraphs.

The first paragraph should give a solid summary of the issue at hand and what you feel are the most important aspects of your committee’s topic. Delegates are also encouraged to do additional research and use supporting facts that would be helpful in debate. The second paragraph should be describing what your nation will be arguing in committee and what specific aspects of the topic impact your country the most. Finally, the third paragraph should contain a delegate’s possible solutions and courses of action that you believe should be included in a resolution.

Please write your citations in Chicago Style (footnotes and bibliography). When writing your position paper, make sure to write in the third person if you are representing a nation. If you are representing a character, be sure to write in the first-person from your character’s point of view. All position papers should be written in Times New Roman 12-point font, single-spaced, and be a maximum of one page in length (including all subtopics). All Delegates will submit their papers through a Google Form that is specifically for their committee in a PDF Format. Below are the links to each committee’s Google Form for delegates to submit their position papers.

Position paper must be submitted by November 6th at 11:59pm in order to be considered for an award. Delegates that do not submit position papers will not be eligible for awards.
