The Chilean-Peruvian Maritime Dispute, 2014
Committee Description
At The Hague, the stakes are as vast as the waters in question. Peru and Chile clash before the International Court of Justice over a 38,000 square kilometer stretch of the Pacific Ocean, rich in fishing resources and strategic value. With historical treaties under scrutiny and national pride on the line, the court’s ruling could reshape maritime borders, economies, and diplomatic relations. Will this be a defining moment for international law, or will tensions spill beyond the courtroom and into the open sea?
