The United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) is a specialized agency of the United Nations that promotes industrial development for poverty reduction, strives for inclusive globalization, and advocates for environmental sustainability. With a mission to stimulate Inclusive and Sustainable Industrial Development (ISID) within its member states, UNIDO operates in accordance with the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are a cornerstone of UNIDO’s philosophies and function as the guiding principles behind many of the committee's policies and frameworks.

Over the course of SSUNS 2021, the UNIDO committee will serve as a General Assembly for new delegates and will be discussing a wide range of subject matter that all fall under the central topic of inclusive and sustainable industrial development. Within the central topic of ISID, the course of debate will focus on three prominent sub-topics where delegates will have the chance to hone their research skills to help generate solutions for one more of the following issues. Firstly, delegates will look to create inclusive and sustainable development in low-income countries with an emphasis on green growth, Indigenous land rights, and poverty reduction. Secondly, member nations will work together to develop creative industries for youth and women, through an analysis into industrial parks, agribusiness, and the disproportionate impact of poverty on women. Lastly, the committee will focus on advancing economic opportunities in Sub-Saharan Africa through the lens of human, cultural, and natural resources for industrial development.

The central focus of this committee, keeping in mind the aforementioned sub-topics as well as the guiding principles of UNIDO, will also be guided by the following sustainable development goals to streamline proposed country solutions; SDG #8: Decent Work and Economic Growth, SDG #9: Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure, and SDG #11: Sustainable Cities and Communities.
