Cleo's Chamber of Secrets
Cleopatra's Ptolemaic Kingdom
(High Level of Crisis elements)
Committee Description
Egypt under the Ptolemaic Dynasty was a civilization brimming with commerce, culture, and intellectualism. The most famous ruler of the Dynasty, Cleopatra VII, would also be Egypt’s final pharaoh. Cleopatra is renowned for her intelligence and political prowess, though much of her story is shrouded in mystery. What is certain is that Cleopatra was faced with a multitude of domestic and foreign challenges during her nearly two decades as pharaoh. This committee will serve as a chamber of Cleopatra’s most important advisors. Delegates will need to prioritize cooperation to protect the kingdom and ensure its continued prosperity. However, they must be wary of other cabinet members, as Cleopatra was often at odds with them and other members of her close circle and own family, who sought to undermine her power for their own political gain. Delegates must thus keep a close watch on palace politics.
Delegates will be asked to tackle the complex domestic affairs of Ptolemaic Egypt. This includes ensuring expansions in education and health services for Cleopatra’s subjects. The committee must also advise Cleopatra on potential economic and religious infrastructure projects, balancing the interests of the various merchants, priests, and generals within Egypt. Furthermore, with Egypt serving as a vital trade outpost between the East and West, the continuation of commercial activity must be ensured. Perhaps most pressing of all, delegates must address the ongoing drought in the region as the Nile River sees a critical reduction in water levels.
Cleopatra’s chamber must also handle a number of urgent external threats. Egypt’s position as a major trade outpost and economic hub may give it geopolitical power, but it also garners the attention of expansionist merchants and empires. With the Parthians to the East and Romans surrounding the kingdom, Cleopatra and her allies must create strategic alliances and actively resist foreign interference when necessary. The very survival of Egypt relies on the relentless efforts of Cleopatra and her chamber of advisors. The Dais is incredibly excited to meet you all at SSUNS 2024!
