International Organization for Migration (IOM)
Addressing the Unique Challenges Faced by Female Migrants
Committee Description
The International Organization for Migration is a United Nations organization dedicated to promoting the safety and humane treatment of international migrants. The organization’s aim is to promote international cooperation surrounding issues of migration and provide humanitarian assistance to migrants in need.
In this committee, delegates will be tasked with addressing the multifaceted challenges female migrants encounter, while recognizing the importance of intersectionality between migrant status and gender. Female migrants confront a range of obstacles including pervasive gender-based violence, systemic discrimination, barriers to securing stable and long-term employment, social isolation, and financial hardship. In addition, the processes of integration and reintegration are often disproportionately difficult for female migrants. This committee aims to foster comprehensive solutions that not only acknowledge but also actively address these issues.
Delegates will be tasked with crafting initiatives that offer sustained support to female migrants, recognizing that short-term interventions, while necessary, are not always sufficient in addressing the complex challenges faced by female migrants.
By prioritizing the rights and well-being of female migrants, this committee seeks to pave the way for more equitable and humane migration policies and practices, emphasizing the need to address structural barriers that perpetuate discrimination and exclusion. Through collaborative dialogue and problem-solving, delegates will aim to build a framework that empowers female migrants and ensures their participation in social, economic, and political spheres.
